Peer Review Process

Each submitted manuscript undergoes an initial review conducted by the editorial team. This assessment is carried out using an initial review form, which includes evaluation of the manuscript’s compliance with the author guidelines. Manuscripts deemed suitable at this stage are forwarded to peer reviewers and undergo an independent double-blind peer-review process.

Manuscripts that do not pass the initial review will be rejected, and authors are encouraged to submit their work to other journals. The outcomes of the double-blind peer review may lead to several editorial decisions based on reviewers’ recommendations, as follows:

  • Accept Submission: The manuscript is accepted without any required revisions.

  • Revisions Required: The manuscript is accepted pending minor revisions as recommended by the reviewers.

  • Resubmit for Review: The manuscript requires major revisions with significant changes and may be considered for acceptance after a second round of review.

  • Decline Submission: The manuscript is rejected and will not be published in this journal.

Stages of the Peer Review Process

Initial Manuscript Evaluation

The Editor first evaluates all submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage if they are insufficiently original, contain serious scientific flaws, demonstrate poor language quality (including inadequate Indonesian language use), or fall outside the aims and scope of the journal. Manuscripts that meet the minimum criteria are typically sent to at least two independent experts for review.

Type of Peer Review

Journal NURSEPEDIA employs a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of the authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review process. Manuscripts are reviewed by reviewers selected based on their relevant expertise.

Reviewer Reports

Reviewers are asked to assess whether the manuscript:

  • Is original;

  • Employs sound and appropriate methodology;

  • Adheres to relevant ethical guidelines;

  • Presents results clearly and supports the conclusions; and

  • Appropriately cites relevant prior work.

Language editing is not part of the peer-review process; however, reviewers may suggest improvements to the manuscript’s language if deemed necessary.

Editor’s Decision

The final decision on the manuscript (acceptance, minor revision, major revision, resubmission, or rejection) is made by the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Board when necessary, based on the reviewers’ critical comments. The Editor’s decision is final.

Final Report

A final decision report indicating whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected will be communicated to the authors, along with the reviewers’ recommendations, which may include verbatim reviewer comments.
